CEO Thomas Fahnemann at the World Rubber Summit 2012 in Singapore “How rubber will bounce in a volatile world”

Vienna, Austria/ Singapore, Republic of Singapore, 29 May 2012 - Under the headline “How rubber will bounce in a volatile world”, the World Rubber Summit was held in Singapore from 22 to 24 May 2012. This exclusive meeting of the rubber industry was attended by numerous international experts who exchanged ideas on key issues and future challenges facing the branch. The congress was hosted by the International Rubber Study Group. This umbrella organisation was founded in 1944 and forms a unique transnational platform for companies and organisations with business activities in the area of rubber production and processing.

This year‘s congress in Singapore focused on the rapidly changing global economy and the effects of new global megatrends on the rubber industry. Five hundred of the most important international branch insiders discussed subjects like raw material prices, emerging markets, sustainability, alternative capital sources and futures trading. The summit participants included key players from international trading centres and the banking arena, members of governments and top managers of well-known companies such as Pirelli, Goldsmith & Eggleton, Goodyear, Lanxess, R1 International, Michelin, Sri Trang, BASF, Hutchinson, ExxonMobil, Continental, Bridgestone and many more.

Semperit was represented by CEO Thomas Fahnemann and a team of experts headed by Manfred Reichel, Lead Buyer Natural Rubber, Latex and Gloves. The morning of the first conference day included a speech by Thomas Fahnemann on opportunities and risks in the rubber branch outside the tyre market. In his talk, he addressed growth opportunities in the medical and industrial sectors as well as the increasing importance of sustainability – in light of this naturally renewable raw material – along the entire value chain. Thomas Fahnemann also spoke about the necessity of having sufficient quantities of rubber available at competitive prices and offered potential solutions.
