Semperit has won the Fast Forward Award

12.09.2012 (Press information)

Vienna, September 12, 2012 - Semperit and the Polymer Competence Center in Leoben won the ”Fast Forward Award“ on September 11, 2012.

The “Fast Forward Award“, a business prize granted by the Federal Province of Styria, is the most successful innovation prize bestowed in Austria. In line with the motto “Growth Through Innovation”, a platform is offered to talented young researchers to present their ideas. On the basis of a preliminary scientific evaluation of all entries, 18 out of the 123 participating companies and research institutions were nominated by a jury of experts.

In cooperation with the Polymer Competence Center, Semperit has developed a new production process to manufacture more skin-friendly medical gloves. Different allergies arise again and again in the health care sector, where the use of disposable gloves is almost indispensable as a means of protection and as a hygienic measure.

Allergies can be caused by the chemicals (so-called accelerators) used for production purposes. A new production process enables gloves to be manufactured without these chemicals, which can be particularly harmful to people suffering from so-called Type IV allergies. This is achieved by cross-linking the coating on the medical gloves with ultraviolet light. The industrial process also stands out due to its low energy costs and high throughput rates. The process has already been patented by Semperit and is scheduled to be launched on the market in 2013.
