Vienna, 24 October 2007

Vienna/Wimpassing, October 24, 2007 – Semperit Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of rubber and plastic products, has commenced the production of synthetic surgical gloves in Wimpassing, Lower Austria. As a result, synthetic surgical gloves are manufactured at the parent plant for the first time in the company’s history. Up until now, the Austrian facility has exclusively fabricated sterile latex gloves, whereas Semperit’s business operations in Thailand have specialized in the production of examination gloves.

Semperit has decided to initiate an expansion programme at the Austrian manufacturing plant to complement the production launch of synthetic surgical gloves, which will be sold under the brand name Sempermed Syntegra IR. In addition to the five dipping lines, a further chain dipping plant will be put into operation in order to meet ongoing robust demand for surgical gloves. The expansion drive, to be carried out at a total investment volume of EUR 2 million, will strengthen Semperit’s Austrian-based manufacturing activities on a sustainable basis.

Parallel to the production build up in the synthetic surgical glove segment, Semperit will increase the output of premium quality powder-free surgical gloves in the upcoming years. An increase in demand is anticipated in both segments. The extension of production capacity will ensure the further growth of Semperit in the premium quality surgical glove segment.

“The development and production of a synthetic surgical glove line is our response to current market trends“, says Clemens Eichler, Managing Director of the Sempermed segment responsible for manufacturing the gloves. “The new Sempermed Syntegra IR has many of the outstanding features of latex gloves, but avoids the risk of allergies“.
